A Courteous Goodnight

I watched the sun settle in behind the orchard The same way an old man Would settle into his favorite armchair At the end of the day. Slowly, almost reluctantly, The sun slipped below the horizon. Darkness came upon the land As the eyelid of the sky Closed over the earth. The sun was now resting In some hidden place. Always a courteous guest His departure was also the same – He put the light out when he left.
