Winnowing Winds

No winds are winnowing enough
To put a quill back in the hands of the dead poet
Or confidence back in the trachea of the strangled speaker
In me
Because no words are as vile
As no words at all
Where they're wanted

Sensitivity not sublime
Nor careful when it comes by
I feed no attention to the egocentric
I don't sew my lips before

In the Cool Night Air

The bistred day has fallen still,
A darkened mead hangs overhead;
The hush within the evening chill
Chants now the yore is gone to bed.
A gently breeze steals from the west,
Cool along the shadowed lanes;
The sunburned broil,  now at rest,
Its warmth has gone, though still remains.

The cool night air stands all alone

Lamet

Lamet!

is what she hears first
him, screaming her second name
as he descends upon her
no time to process
gravity
a thud, tearing her core to shavings
Maiweeeee! She is puzzled.

His baritone dropping the 'n'
agitation
a wooden scrabble.
Nothing is left between her
and Pee, not a grain
all’s crushed
smothering their screams
interlocking their groans.

He is a pawn, no saphead
giving it to her, a pounding
her splinters
putting

THE WINNOWING

Wake of harvest, came time for winnowing
Separation loosing chaff from the grain
Bake of bread that gave them a bestowing
Creation: body nurture that they’d fain
Make in life, a time for spirit growing
Valuation of virtues not to strain
Then we might cherish food for soul above
When we winnow, retain the grain of love
