Trick Up Her Sleeve

Written by Gail DeBole
on April 24, 2024

He ransacked the dumpster near the vacant campground
Looking for small trinkets like a well-trained bloodhound.

You know the story. His wife had to go.
After her death, his assets would grow.

He could start a new life with his stunning friend.
He could start a business based on a food trend.

His wife held him down and expected too much.
She was no fun, and he could not stand her touch.

So… he found those small trinkets near the vacant campground
And, after her death, placed them near her all around.

His evil trick was to plant trinkets as false clues
To confuse the police and his confidence grew.

When they checked DNA, his wouldn’t be the same.
Someone else would conveniently shoulder the blame.

They would trace those trinkets to another poor sap
Who would waste time in court in a quite clever trap.

But even while dying, his wife was smarter than he.
Her last life goal to receive justice would come to be.

Way up underneath her sleeve so he would not see
She did something clever so he would not stay free.

She wrote in her own blood a few minutes before she died
His initials and “killed me” to reveal his evil lie.
