Winter Wonderland

I woke up early one cold winter's morn; * A ray of light had roused me from my sleep, And gazing at the rose-pink blush of dawn My eyes excitedly began to sweep Across the frosted landscape to the deep Soft bed of snow on fields and hillside steep. The world had been transformed beyond compare. A pristine blanket clothed the frozen ground. As sunlight filtered through the frosty air Such dazzling brightness shimmered all around. Soft flurries of light snow fell without sound And silhouettes with crystal glace were crowned. A child-like joy embraced my ageing heart To see this winter wonderland unfold. A spectacle of such majestic art Its silver sheen more dazzling still than gold. A stunning transformation to behold Of origin divine and imprint bold. And though now frail, come morning light I planned To take a little walk through virgin land. *(Please note that in British English, ‘morn’ and ‘dawn’ are a perfect rhyme) 26/12/18 'Winter wonderland poetry contest' : Sponsor :Émile Pinet 'Winter Wonders Within Nature Poetry Contest' Sponsor:M. Wendy, your poem has captured the wonder of first snowfall, something we experienced every year until we moved to more southern climes. Our city averages zero inches of snow a year! So this is a Fav for me :) ~Mark

Thank you for 'stopping by' to read and comment,Mark. I don't think we ever quite grow out of that magical moment we draw the curtains to the fresh fall of snow. Thankfully I am not as old and frail as my fictional observer above so I can get out and enjoy it!

Thank you Connie. My Aunt lives in Toronto and has so much snowfall that she might not enjoy this one quite so much. It's more of a novelty for the Brits!

Congratulations Wendy, your poem earned a distinguished place in my contest, due to the exacting syllable counts and perfect rhyme requirements this contest was very tough to judge, well done my friend, Emile.

I started to highlight my favorite parts, and realize they are all my favorite parts Wendy. "A child-like joy embraced my ageing heart to see this winter wonderland unfold. a spectacle of such majestic art its silver sheen more dazzling still than gold." is my ultimate most favorite part. Merry Christmas!
