Welcome To Eden Picture Perfect Countryside Village Serenity

The waters trickling under the
crossing bridge grows ever dormant

And on the one and only discernable
route into this village languishing beneath
there is a old rickety swinging sign that says

" Welcome to Eden "

We trust you enjoy your stay

Where the church choir in the district
can be muffled heard singing an
unbeknownst to me unfamiliar
version of silent night in D#minor
chord

Accompanied by a piping church organ
and orchestral screeching violin string
quartet

As the flowers those still left alive
upon tombstone as if to dress the
dead in floral tribute scent

Waver to its beat as do the tree
leaves like an ensemble cast of
extra actors in limited supply

And so all is good and well in this
here neatly tucked away sleepy
pictures perfect countryside village

Where the only thing the residents have
to complain about is the odd bit of
traffic once in a while passing through it

And whence autumn season cometh
and blows the leaves from the ailing
creaking branches obliterating the
high street main thoroughfare

The setting for an aspiring painter or
twitches to dream about as everything
around and abound It is electric

On both the eye and stimulates
all other senses we as human beings
so possess as well

Resemblant more of a trinket gift
shop trapped inside a snow globe
scene

Far removed from the city's rallying cry
that with every heartbeat and second
passing seems a lifetime ago further
away

Until i so have to intern flee back to my
crucible cathedral life from whence
i came like a sparrow bird

To my far more visceral familiar
surrounding that I am accustomed to

Red brick walls and building covered
decorative in coal smog and exhaust
plumes

Where ferrel newly mobile foxes
scout bins for morsels of delightful
treats to prize from within

Back to flowers only seen in shopping
mall window display or parks and
natures beauty in picture postcards
that don't come with

The same sense or feeling of wellbeing
attached inside and what it is actually
like being and standing there in person

And to be able to stop and take it all in
as if you hadn't seen or will quite ever
get to see the likes of its serenity since
before or such again alike

Hoping and praying to get the opportunity
once more to go back there sometime
in the not to distant future soon again

Joined this time at the hip and hand with
a lover pray stood besides one to show
it off

To them as well in all of its ethereal
natural esthetic majestic glory

Christopher, as everyone has already alluded to: this is a great poem. As much as I love visiting the countryside, chocolate box villages and the like, once the veneer comes off there are still struggles to contend with - just different struggles. I remember once in The lake District saying to my wife that I'd love to live in a lovely house miles from anywhere..Thinking on though I wasn't sure how far it would be to the nearest GP, hospital, garage, tip, shop...or friend. Cheers - Gary

Evening Gary Sir Made me laugh about the logic of head of heart. And however great it may seem we are creatures of habit and honestly more comfortable in our own safe familiar surroundings And as much as we like to visit these kind of places. It is probably best we do so sporadically in order for them retain there appeal and magic

A terrific poem of contrasts Christopher, we also have a few of those little Edens too, but I often wonder it these picturesque places are designed just for tourists, still I agree it’s only when we get back home to the city we realise the reality of our lives, I enjoyed reading this one, cheers David

Thank you very much Sir I also wonder to and would be reticent to say the inhabitants don't also suffer the same problems as we do from as well. Also applies to cities as well I think Liverpool has a world class city center but that's mostly for the benefits of attracting tourists Anf we are all only human beings that have the same feelings and heart as well don't we after all
