(Day 1)
"O Wise Raven, Sage of the Skies, tell me what you have seen from your perch set on high."
"Mortal Man, I feel no compulsion to reveal to you that which I have witnessed with mine own eyes. Nevertheless, I will relate to you all I have seen, so that you may serve as prophet to me.
I have observed six thousand years of hatred. Humanity in its insanity hates without just cause. Your species spews venom over differences in belief, color of skin, cultural practice, political preference, social status and more. Observe please, the birds of the heavens. They are more numerous than the sands of the sea. Despite their vast diversity, they understand they are one. They share a common origin. They believe this beautiful planet is big enough for all. Mortal man, tell them to stop hating and to embrace diversity, to accept one another in a unifying bond of peace and brotherhood. Tell them, to love is to be free.
I have observed six thousand years of assault on your planet home. You rape the earth of its resources with no regard for future generations. You plunder the rain forests, pollute the land, air, and sea, wipe entire species out of existence and engage in many other evils besides these. You believe you are gods, but no deity would foul its own nest. Observe please, the birds of heaven. They use only what is needed to survive. Excess is a thing unknown to them. Mortal man, tell them to stop the assault. Make them understand they must preserve this beautiful home called Earth. Otherwise, extinction is inevitable.
I have observed six thousand years of poverty. Billions of your kind live in squalor, while comparatively few live in luxury. Many cannot feed their children. Are you blind? Deaf as well? Do you not hear the cries of your young? The wails of the hungry make the angels of heaven weep. Those living in filth die without pity. Observe please, the birds of the heavens. None of theirs goes without. They build their sturdy homes on high. Gusty winds do not dislodge them from their mooring place. Mortal man, tell them to spread the wealth. Tell them to support the bruised reeds so they may live and thrive. Tell them greed leads to poverty of spirit.
I have observed six thousand years of lies and deceit. Your politicians lie with every breath. Your religious leaders sell opium-laced deceptions disguised as enlightenment. Your business tycoons advertise their wares as panaceas leading to ultimate happiness and fulfillment. Observe, please, the birds of the heavens. Their songs are sweet and true. They sing of the beauty of nature and of their relationships to other living things. Mortal man, tell them to speak only truth to one another. Tell them that honesty leads to peace."
(Day 2)
"O Wise Raven, Sage of the Skies, tell me what you have seen from your perch set on high."
But on this day my raven remained silent. In addition, a white dove had taken its station beside him. As I looked on in wonder, both of them morphed into seraphs in an instant of time. Each had six wings, and their appearance was as bright as the sun. Together they began their ascent into the heavens, but the one I had previously addressed as Raven turned around and said to me:
"Mortal man, all you have seen and heard relate to the sons of men. Perhaps some may take heed and live. As for the rest, the judgment from of old has not been delayed. Keep on the watch for it."
It was then I understood. I had been chosen to sound the warning. And yet I felt unworthy to carry such a weighty message.
May all persons of good heart take heed. A new world awaits the meek.
Shalom
