The Welcome Drink
After a 9 hr flight l was so looking forward to this trip.
The colors on arriving were amazing.
All the senses exploding all at once as we departed to our All Inclusive Hotel.
A precarious taxi drive through jungle thicket that had roads so pot-holed to knock all those senses out.
Finally arrived to swaying heavy beating music and heat now becoming unbearable.
' Welcome, welcome,' was shouted from beaming smiles.
'You must be so tired from your journey, take our refreshments before we show you to your beach villa' was the persuasive chant.
How could l resist. Only one problem.
l hadn't eaten for hours and this was a 90% proof rum cocktail !
They were delicious , how could l refuse. l was on my 25th wedding Anniversary after all , so lets party.
Then next minute, i'm looking up at the wonderful Azura Blue Caribbean sky.
l had fallen into the storm ditch, to the walk to the beach villa, blotto drunk from just 2 drinks, and a voice that appeared to be own , calling for my love to rescue me.
As l clung to the belt of my love, a stern voice l remember hearing from somewhere , which turned out to be the Porter, ' you should look after your wife' ! .
True story of my ' welcome drink' in St. Lucia.
