Dit zijn de vijf bizarste drinking clubs uit Oxford

The Bullingdon Club was founded in 1780 about 240 years ago. An elite private club for male Oxford University students, selected for their wealth, and willingness to take part in club activities. It was originally a sporting club, attested to by the club symbol. Members were required the have a very expensive uniform made, a navy blue tailcoat, that was worn with a white shirt and the bright blue club tie. I am not sure about the pants. In more current photographs the tailcoat is a navy blue jacket and the tie is missing. The sporting aspect faded and was replaced with a dining club. They held lavish banquets in restaurant dining rooms that ended in trashing the room chanting their rally call buller, buller, buller. Before leaving they paid the for the damages in cash. There was controversy about the club it seemed to be just a front for vandalism and drunkedness by self-indulgent arrogant sons of great wealth. They left a path of destruction behind. Smashing bottles and the crockery, glasses, furniture, windows and even walls broken. They had no sense of restraint. It was total debauchery. Oxford University suspended the club but they still met secretly, and on the streets in the middle of the night yelled we are the Bullingdon boys. They would still rent dining rooms in alias names and continued their wine and champagne swilling. They were bullies and loved to intimidate people. While prostitutes were included for the members entertainment. All the while chanting their rally call . . . buller, buller, buller. They also destroyed students living quarters. So, why were they never arrested? Some of the members that were part of the Bullingdon Club are shocking as they went on the be important men in politics and other fields. On the list are many names you would recognize, ministers, lots of princes and dukes also. Today, the club is considered toxic, no aspiring student would be caught dead in Bullingdon blue. It has fallen on hard times with only 2 members so they say . . . or has it just gone secret because it is hard to undo this kind of hate. ________________________ March 30, 2023 Poetry/Prose Poetry/Bullingdon Boys Copyright Protected, 03-1536-123-30 All Rights Reserved, 2023, Constance La France Written for the Standard contest Bullingdon Boys sponsor, Joe Maverick, Judged 04/11/2023 First Place
