Slip, Slide, Away

Listen to poem:
I let it slip away.
I held the hand for
as long as I could.
Too weak to draw the
dangling body up.
The hand became limp
and cold, lifeless,
clammy in my fingers.
The head below was hanging
down impervious to
my warm tears streaming
down from my face.
What more could I do?
Exhausted, hopeless, done
I let it slip, slide, away.
