"Selkie"
Tomorrow never comes shadows dance on walls the wanting of bodies electric pressed fast and tight in the hot surrender of wet sheets sailing over solitary satin skin neroli oiled slick in the scent of a foreigner's musk bitter sweet orange and honey touched in the moment by a hint of green limbs tangled like climbing jasmine wild orchid drips off moist fingertips a rapture rising in notes piercing velvet chords stroked out from cherry stained lips caught on the turn of a tongue not spoken as you turn relentlessly in the tumultuous burning Sea of Dreams graced by tears kissed fresh by saltwater lips Ocean eyes breezes in towards your rising twin peaks whispers over your forest where the wild lives a warm breath delivered in the hollows of the curves of your waist fascinated by something incomplete he’s replete with poetic soft roped nets your sung in like a Selkie you shed your skin living naked eyes half open and drugged in the sensual unspoken But you are never kept; for the moment suspended you let him in but he doesn’t own your skin (LadyLabyrinth/2019)
"...And if some lover, such as we, Have heard this dialogue of one, Let him still mark us, he shall see Small change, when we’are to bodies gone." ("The Ecstasie"/John Donne) "...When thou knew'st what I dreamt, when thou knew'st when Excess of joy would wake me, and cam'st then, I must confess, it could not choose but be Profane, to think thee any thing but thee." (The Dream/ John Donne) ""I was thinking of Bourbon Street in New Orleans when I wrote it - I was getting ready to go there and I thought: what the f--k do I think I'm going to find? It's about the incredulity that I could still be fooled into looking for a perfect moment." (about "Fascination Street" / Robert Smith, The Cure)

Your poetry forever awes me. You and I both referenced John Donne yesterday in our poems- mine written long ago-- titled, "Between Man And God, A Cavernous Rift Hath Grown, Tribute To John Donne" and you in this magnificently conceived piece! With the reference, (The Dream/ John Donne).. A fav-- a bright shining gem..

One can not go wrong in writing to, for or about inspiring verses giving rise to their poetry when such verses and their inspiration is attributed to the famous and magnificently gifted poetry of John Donne my friend. In my life, I very likely written over 30 poems inspired by verses he wrote. A truly great poet he was...

Thank you, v.kind. I was going to go with a Walt Whitman sub-quote, not that it's sub in any way, shape or form, but John Donne seemed a more appropriate fit to the message of the dream state, which my psyche is delivering in my poem, "Selkie". I was going to use "The Same Deep Water as You" / The Cure as the Primary music, as music goes hand in hand with my poetry and the lyrics of that song fit. At one stage, I had considered Del Rey's "Body Electric" which had prompted me to read the Whitman poem, I decided to use "Fascination Street" as the primary music, because I consider there are various levels in the mating game to reach, if at all, a state of Love, if one is on a journey to secure Love through this game, and Life, is a game if not a lesson. "Fascination Street" fits well with the state of "infatuation".

No matter where you go, there you are. "like a Selkie you shed your skin living naked" - you have exposed so many. Sensuously done, LL.

Thank you. I have been having some fairly lucid dreams lately. I was listening to Del Rey sing Body Electric, which prompted me to go read Walt Whitman's "I Sing the Body Electric", combine that with a conversation I had recently with a close friend, regarding the dream state and sex, and reading Anais Nin's Delta of Venus, I am suspended in a sensual dimension. The end result is "Selkie", who can and will shed her skin to secure what she desires, but she belongs entirely unto herself and no man.
