Self-Existent Light

Underneath the gunky brew
There is a concrete floor.
Underneath the floor
Lies 3 snappy alligators.
Inside each of those alligators
Is a soul
Twitching against death and survival.
Adjacent to the gator stands the gator hunter
Leaning against a parapet
Of lava rock and sea salt.

In the cottage,
Down a mile,
Hours later,
Gator meat and black-eyed peas
Were fed to 2 sooty children,
Whose self-existent light's burned aglow
With the smell of the meat-smoke
Wafting up their noses.
