School Holidays

Today starts the Year of the Snake. My grandkids were given a break For schools were all closed Since someone proposed That to open would be a mistake. Different holidays now get observed (I’m not saying that they’re undeserved) Yet for years there were few, Just the ones we all knew, And traditions were always preserved. Varied cultures are claiming their due, Though I’d bet not all schools share that view. If there were a debate On this topic, by state, Change would happen in those that are blue.

Oh, to bring 'Casimir Pulaski Day' back to Chicago. lol. No more Washington's birthday either. Illinois celebrates Lincoln's birthday -- even though he was born in Kentucky... Veteran's Day long gone too... And how 'bout 'May Day,' 'Victory Day,' and Adolf Hitler's Dying Day? ... And so it goes...

They will be thinking of other days the schools can close lol - why they cant have time learning about these cultures and traditions that would be far more beneficial to both the students and the parents who have to organise child care if they work! hugs Jan xx
