Out of the Gaits

Watch the people walking –
Check their bodies, not their faces.
You can tell a lot as they
Perambulate their paces.

Strutters filled with confidence
Step lively, arms a’swinging,
Silently announcing
It’s their “A” game they are bringing.

Trudgers tramp with labored tread –
They’re carrying a weight;
Dispirited, they have no place
To which they might be late.

Tourists amble merrily;
They traipse on guidebook treks,
Jauntily meandering,
Their cameras ‘round their necks.

On any city street, observe –
Analysis awaits,
For there’s a lot to learn
By scrutinizing people’s gaits.

That's quite a word, perambulate. Thanks for still teaching us. I'll try not to be late for class. Keep on perambulatin'. :)

Metropolitan Life Company used to air TV commercials with a jingle that said "There's nobody else exactly like you." Everyone has their unique style of movement. Good write Ilene.

Have you ever heard the song "Walk this way". This poem reminds me of it. I usually do not try to rhyme my poems - once in a while I do. You might want to check out "Voices Israel" which offers contest and publishes an anthology once a year. B'Shalom Matthew Anish
