Not So Near

She hears, but never truly listens, Speaks in echoes, cold and distant. A laugh escapes, not filled with cheer, Her eyes glance past, yet never near. Darkness creeps, a closing wall, But she won’t let herself fall. One more puff to chase the gray, One more sigh to blur the day. A flicker of hope, soft and slight, That maybe tomorrow brings some light. But time plays cruel, as dreams disappear— For tomorrow, love… Is not so near.
