Suzette's Memento Left on the Moon Contest  *  4/14/25

I'll not journey to the moon and leave rubbish there. Thinking of all the junk left behind is hard to bear. ~ thoughts of the poet No trace of trespassing on the moon should be kept. I scorn the lack of mankind's judgment for being inept. Footprints should have been swept before flying home. Into realms of outer space mankind chooses to roam, leaving junk strewn on moon... pieces of a robot, a golf ball, a flag planted by the hands of an astronaut. The moon is not a dumping ground for what's left behind. It ruins the concept of a radiant moon that's been maligned when her glorious beauty should be regaled and enshrined. There should be a sign posted by The Guardians of the Galaxy. "Luna is not a refuse heap for man's rubble and debris. If you must visit, show her deserved respect and use integrity. Take your rubbish with you as you leave this property." The Guardians ~ with irrefutable authority.

Lin, I like this a lot. What goes for the moon also goes for us here. It's amazing how much disregard there is for keeping the place clean for the next person or the next generation. This is very clever and sad at the same time. I'm listening, but how do we reach the worst offenders? Perhaps we should have required poetry classes for our citizens?

When giving thought to what's been left behind on the moon, is it no wonder that our planet is in such bad shape from trash? The worst offenders in any phase of life never seen themselves as the culprits. Thanks for so many visits today. ;-)

Dear Lin, Yes, Dignity for the Moon! Oh how your word pierces like starlight in those footprints we didn’t sweep, the golf balls and flags masquerading as progress. I see the Guardians’ warning etched in lunar dust, the quiet rage against beauty maligned. Such are the tides, pulling at the conscience of every rocket launched. The Moon’s dignity? It’s in every line you refuse to leave behind. Spring Blessings, Dear Lin, Daniel

You’ve written quite a comprehensive review of the exact points I hoped to make. Perhaps I should hire you to clean up my lines. A Guardian of my poetry! Seriously, Daniel, big thanks for your gracious thoughts.

Love the poem Lin I agree with not littering our earth or the moon BUT one piece of useless junk that could be left on the moon would be the POTUS lol:-) Perhaps musky rat can organise it lol:-) hugs Jan xx

I think we’d best send them to Mars. The moon is for lovers, not haters. Thanks so much, Jan.

We have to get our dirty hands into everything, don't we? I fear the rats on the moon will be men! Thanks, Tom.

Dear Linnersz, Thats a very thoughtful take on the prompt. Its strange I just saw a post which says katy perry went to space! Not sure if its true but my sis thinks its true! How fascinating! And yes the moon deserves love and kindness , and youv written a very moving and meaningful poem, I especially love “Footprints should have been swept before flying home.”!’ How thought provoking, metaphorically I would like to leave some souvenirs for the moon, the powerful nature of this left me in awe! Pleasure reading your poem today! Sending you light always

A crew of a few women and the flight only lasted 11 minutes. Just high enough to say they were in space and get a view of Earth from on high. Thanks for reading and leaving your thoughts about this one, Ink. Humans leave too much trash on Earth, and no scientist could figure out how not to litter the moon! That includes parts of the spaceships that aren't needed for the return trip.

You really can turn your hand to anything Lin, this time cleaning up the moon, of course she should be left pristine once we leave to return home, having said all that I wouldn’t fancy sweeping up the dust (regolith) on the moon, it’s between 6ft and 20 ft deep across the whole surface! Great one for contest, cheers David

lol You have me laughing as I appreciate your response. David, I would love you if you weren't a poet and couldn't walk across the sun. Those two attributes certainly are tempting me to call you a hero, as I did before.

Well it just happens I walked across the face of the sun and dug into its core, but only in my poem (would you love me if I wasn’t a poet) lol! That is indeed the beauty of poetry we can do anything at a whim :)

Ha, David. I got the idea from Suzette's blog asking what Memento would you leave on the moon? Brooms wouldn't work, nor would waders if the regolith is that deep. hmmm... Perhaps AI could build a series of bridges, but now I'm getting about 4 decades ahead of time... maybe not. Thanks for your input on the output of moondust. I assume there's no clean up needed for stardust? But then, to my knowledge, no one has ever or will ever land on a star.
