Let Me Be
Let me be as I choose within reason
An hourglass sifts the time of my life
I would like my decisions to be mine
Is it so much to ask, to retain freedom?
The same freedom, nourishes my soul
To grow, to give, to share, to love
All that makes the time in life fulfilling
One dark day, I saw no flowers
It seemed the garden had died
Restricted by weeds and also neglect
All controlled by someone who planted it
I’ve seen the freedom in a meadow
Flowing freely in the oncoming breeze
All the blades of grass in sequence
This way, that way, all together free
Let me be like that blade of grass
Gentle, soft, flexible and free
Open as such a meadow can be
