Kindness and Fear - the Yakkha Damanaya
I walk to the shrine
in a gloomy evening,
keeping short, careful steps
and watch frescos
both old and new.
“Yakkha Damanaya
at Mahiyangana”
The Lord Buddha
endures,
and the mat
with fire on edges
away chases devils.
The Lord’s kind heart
artist has painted
in His eyes, on face -
and The Lotus.
Devils run
in fear…
eyes open,
face wretched.
How can an artist
paint it in one frame?
