INTERCEPTION

INTERCEPTION
Shadows waning distorted fading Teasing tempting, a psychotic hack Scheming concealing cerebral deceiving Sun retreating behind shades of black Memoirs succumbing, alpha notes strumming Hope dwindling midst each laboured breath Dusky-eyed wretchedness, reflective reminiscence Sporadic spirits predicting sinister death Powerless to quell the oppressor within Oh, desolation! The thief with the sinister grin The day bleeds, no conveyed clarifications Nightfall brings its own demonic demons Moodswings of crazy with judgements so hazy Interceptive apathy through feelings of lethargy Music evokes emotions with resilient duress Though once familiar titles slide back in regress. Living within her own fluid transparency The piteous empathy, does she even discern? Is she to become a fading frequency? Or… ungenial ashes in a decorative urn? As the soft rose shades of twilight transcends In the quietude of peace – a hushed calm descends One last recall remains in her artistic archive Where the Star of the Show still dazzles and thrives.
Maria Williams © 2023 I know this will be a sensitive topic, especially at Christmas with people caring for or visiting their loved ones afflicted with Dementia or Alzheimer's—such a sad condition. Apparently, the worst thing to possibly do is try to jog the patient's memory, as it causes more stress. Instead, why not give them your time and play their favourite music? Music memories often remain as others disappear. This is because brain regions involved in musical memory and processing (e.g., the cerebellum) are not as affected by Alzheimer's or dementia until much later in the disease course. Please watch the video; it is so beautiful and touching. Marta Gonzalez was a professional ballet dancer who developed Alzheimer's. One thing she never forgot was her Swan Lake routine She passed in 2019.

Dear Maria, ah sorry im late to comment on your precious poem that raises awareness on such an important subject. I did write on alzheimers too, and i think youve highlighted everything. I have some loved ones diagnosed with alzheimers and its true we should never try forcing them to remember but empathy and kindness and patience is the key. I really love your rhymes and rhythm, so captivating. “Is she to become a fading frequency? Or… ungenial ashes in a decorative urn?” Soul stirring and your

touching, poignant, and sad. My aunt was a prima ballerina who performed internationally. She started her own ballet school and was an acclaimed teacher and choreographer. She's in her 90s now and suffers from dementia...was sad to watch her decline. Thanks for sharing this poem and the video, Sara

Well written but so sad, Maria. The video had my eyes watering. My mother had it before she died. It is a wretched condition. Merry Christmas!

Thanks so much, Vijay; the video brought back some sad memories, not so much for my mother-in-law, who developed Dementia, but for my brother, who developed a dreadful condition called PSP after a fall and an injury to the brain. He passed 2 years ago, just a year after he was diagnosed. No cure to date. Hugs

This is a bit like the poem I wrote one called the D word, remember? It is a heartbreaking condition and so sad for friends and family to see a loved one suffer in this way.. music always seems to bring something back, ive seen this a few times.. I wish no one would suffer this way... Hopefully they can find a cure or maybe CBD could the solution.. Brilliant poem dear Maria.. a Fave for me for sure!

Yes I remember that poem well I think I even commented. You should repost it. A very sad condition, I wish there was a cure, although CBD is certainly a preventive measure, not sure if its strong enough to reverse advanced stages. Thanks for the Fave my friend...Hugs --

Isn't music such a powerful force. It must be the only medium that resonates deep inside the brain, awaking memories that seemed lost.
