Going to Be Born
A muffled hum,
a lullaby of blood,
a gentle, pulsing wave.
Warmth like a silken sea,
swallowing,
cradle and cocoon.
Light, a shifting dream,
a world beyond,
soft as spun wool.
Tiny limbs,
curled tight,
seeking rhythm,
an unknown dance.
The pressure,
a symphony of pushes,
a grand crescendo.
Then,
a sudden rush of cold.
Air, crisp and sharp,
a gasp, a cry,
a bursting into being.
Eyes, blurry at first,
then focusing,
on the kaleidoscope of colours:
sunlight, a shimmering halo,
a face,
a moonlit smile.
The universe,
an explosion of sensations:
textures, scents,
sounds weaving a symphony.
A tiny hand,
reaching out,
to grasp, to hold,
to connect.
Heartbeats
a synchronised symphony.
This life,
a chorus of beginnings,
unfolding in a breathtaking aria.
