Framed Mirror

It hung on the wall,
like a decoration to adorn the home,
framed with the finest of woods.

this glittering mirror on the wall,
the abode of coloured memories,
the gatekeeper of many secrets.

we stand before this framed mirror,
struggling to conceal our deepest emotions
but the mirror is no mirage.

the beautiful, ugly and obscure,
the truth, the lies and the in-betweens,
the mirror bares it all, the mirror bears it all.

the vulnerability of many,
the fears and strength of the mighty,
this framed mirror reflects all.

framed mirror hanging on the wall,
the comfort of the forlorn and brokenhearted,
the warmth of the cheerful and light-hearted.

before this mirror,
the edge of every emotion is unveiled,
a critical appraisal of life is revealed,

if this framed mirror could speak,
stories would unfold,
tales from time immemorial.
