Fifty-Two Dollars

Fifty-two dollars Oh how I wish I had fifty-two dollars to cover the cost of a four-dollar meal, and pay for an outfit that’s much more in style, on sale, half the price, is considered a steal To gather a card for each holiday calling and write out your name where the address does go, grabbing a beautiful bouquet of flowers, that bloom like your smile each season they grow To purchase a suitcase for that destination, that brings my heart closer to where yours does wait while running to catch Monday’s bus at the station, for Tuesday or Wednesday just might be too late Oh how I wish I had fifty-two dollars, so I could be near you whatever I spend and maybe have change left to keep in my pocket, in case time allows me to see you again

It certainly takes money to enjoy anything in the world. Being close to the one you love, is priceless. Your thoughts caress softly around me and my heart. This is beautiful, tender, and so romantic. Congratulations Chris, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. :) Brandy

Thanks so much Brandy. Indeed, some things are priceless and some even cost nothing, like kindness and a smile. All free for the giving and taking. Thanks so much my friend.

Chris, wonderful to have you back. Congrats and high fives on your POTD! Your poem echoes with a pensive longing brought about by separation from love. So wonderfully expressed. So poignant. To often, today, people have to make decisions between food, gas and medications! Your poem has brought about a much needed conversation - the true work of a poet. Thank you. Blessings to you.

Chris--what an uplifting poem...clever and somewhat whimsical. Seems like there's more to your poem...perhaps a bit of romance involved or a longing to see someone who's dear to your heart. Congrats on POTD

Thank you so much Sara. I think there is always something more to my poems, I just don't always know what it is. : )

Well written verse my friend, but I am with Pangie, $52 barely covers the cost for a restaurant meal for one and a tank of gas for a small car. I bought a dozen doughnut holes for my grandson and it cost $2.50 Congratulations on your POTD.

Thank you Eve. You are right, it doesn't buy much but it was just something that popped into my head the other day and I couldn't get it out unless I wrote it down.

Some places 52 dollars will not even pay for one meal. Other in unfortunate countries it will buy a man's life! Great verse my friend, I really like it. God bless..

Chris, It's always a pleasure to see your avatar and read your current reflections... Now as for the $52: One for each state, one for Puerto Rico?... and one for Ukraine? lol. Interesting number you picked!! ~ 52 Skid-Skid-Skidoo (Up from 22-Skidoo, thanks to relentless inflation!). Light and Illumination, Gershon

Well, what do you think Gershon? An old poetic hack like me drops a poem about virtually nothing out of nowhere and gets POTD? What a great country. : ) It does make you wonder though. Thanks for coming by my friend.

Magnificently done Chris. The inflationary spiral from "brother can ya spare a dime" to fifty-two dollars. You have added a gentle simplicity to a complex dilemma.
