According to the United Nations' stats, if current trends continue, about 582 million people will be chronically undernourished in 2030, half of them in Africa. One of the factors that lead to world hunger is war/ conflict between richer nations. Another is Gender discrimination, which is often a cause of persistent hunger. Sixty percent of the world’s hungry people are women and girls. Empowerment of women and girls is essential in ending hunger, extreme poverty, and malnutrition around the world. Support peaceful campaigns for Cessation of world hunger/ poverty.
-----------------
Can't empty bowls be filled with rice
   each day?
Whatever ever age, gender, color, or
   creed
That mankind’s dire hunger be swept
   away,
Not by crumbs when wheatfields are
   lush, indeed.

The world yields enough crops through
     sun or rain
And river beds swim with fish of
     seasons;
Providing decent meals from nourished grain.
Then why this famish for selfish
     reasons?

Man grows hungry ....yet, this is my
    prayer:
That food NOT be used as greed for
    money,
But life's blessing, God’s gift equal and
    fair,
And nail this curse," wipe off trade’s
   gluttony!"

Nette, it is hard to believe and your poem makes it clear that people need help and we have to give it.

Food and clean water belong to everyone - there should be no boundaries or artificial control; especially not an exchange of bullets for grain (as had happened in the past with rich versus desperate nations). Man's cruelty knows no bounds. Thank you for sharing your words with us Nett - every drop helps - maybe not physically, but maybe plant a seed of compassion and change the "it has always been like this" mindset, eg the grain silos of Egypt during Biblical times.

Ahh, you've such an empathetic and pure heart, dear Nette. Unfortunately, the sad reality of today's world revolves around the self-centered aspirations of people which often lead to the negligence towards actual needs of survival... I wish that this place could become aware of what humanity truly is. Your words always have such a deep impact, they are profound. Sending you best wishes for the contest & light, always ~

You have such a sincere beautiful and thoughtful heart dear nette, this is such a different take on the prompt and I absolutely loved it and felt it! Especially the opening lines. We live in a world where everything is used to chain people and those in need. If only the world will be a better one for many. Sending you light always! Best wishes talented soul

Sadly, it will never happen Nette, though your poetic plea is added to the din of those calling for change and compassion. Not until the Prince of Peace takes control will all the world's hungry be filled with good things from the earth - Psalm 72:12-16
