Claiming Fate, Dark Fate Gifts, His Sad Afflictions

Claiming Fate, Dark Fate Gifts, His Sad Afflictions

They forced him, build sandcastles on barren beaches
They were his addictions, those beautiful leeches
Saw his false shadows, like hell he resented it
Ripped his true heart each damn time he presented it
Fat with soul-wrecking love, they bleached his weary bones
Nights he was weak, begging please, for their dark tones
Each new dawn, he swore oaths to send them far away
And backed down, when angry echoes came back to play
When he fought back, razor teeth ate into his brain
Until his aching soul, broke from their blackest strain
They clung to him like sweat on a hot, hot June day
Even if he tried, he could not send them away
Giving up, he surrendered to drug addictions
Claiming Fate, dark Fate gifts, his sad afflictions

Sonnet

Old Note- Deleted.

New Note. Written shortly after a good friend drove his car into a tree, dying that night.
We never knew for sure but they said he did it on purpose. I saw him the week before at a wild party.
He asked me, would I come to his funeral if he died. I laughed and said, " sure I would, to tell you to pay me that 60 bucks you owe me .....
One just never knows, the depth of pain some are in....

Being a recovered addict, I know too well that pain. Another wonderful sonnet from your golden pen, Robert:)

Your poem expresses the sadness and loneliness that some feel in their lives, though a brave face is worn, what hides beneath we just can't possibly know. This was very deep Robert and very well written.

Your note... Yes, I understand, also that pain, I understand. This sonnet, it is chillingly good. I add it to my faves. It's poetry with such deep emotions.
