Betrayal In a Tandem

The two women sat near the coffin as if in a dream, The notary shuffled pompously his files, The women wondered what his scheme was. The old man looked at them, his face all smiles. The dead man was married to both all the time. Had he been caught it would have been a crime. He thought his success sublime. He was a rich man and made many gains, Half to each he left all without restrains. Both looked at each other as if in chains: Betrayed to extreme Their thoughts all jumbled in unjust piles. Alas that was his pastime. May he go to hell, they thought, in fiery lanes.

love the humor, but there is men that do tend to have more than one wife and enjoy their lifestyle. :)

God knows his heart, and He will place this man where he belongs. These women say "may he go to hell" By his actions, that is exactly where he is headed. Shame on him. ~ Brandy

What a carry on, wonder which one he called the better half, at least he was a rich man and paid the two wives for his sins, ‘cash from thrash’… Belle

HA. As long as he was really rich, I would not care if the other woman got half the money. It just means the other one had had to put up with him half the time. Good riddance to a man like that!!

That must have been some shock, reminded me of those miners a few years ago that were stuck underground and all their families were they're when they got them out, turns out one of the miners wives was there and so was his girlfriend, don't know what happened after. Tom

Genealogists know such relationships are quite common, but equal division of assets is not! As with the Mormon polygamists, many women are happy to have a randy husband "out of their hair" for a time . . . . Enjoyed!

Betrayal can be so difficult, but sometimes the only thing one can do is to move on. Your poem is interesting and expertly written, Victor. Evelyn :)

Love the end, Victor. However, both should be glad, it was fairly divided (50/50) and they could do whatever they fancy. Some die without a penny.... lol....

Victor, you surprised me with the unexpected subtlety of this last line" May he go to hell, they thought, in fiery lanes." I rarely get surprised by a poem, so I say BRAVO and thank you!

Ah sad... "his pastime?."... I don't think those two women are going to leave him even after death... for his betrayal and injustice...So well penned story dear Victor. God bless... ~ Ani

My wish would've been for both women to have discovered his dastard betrayal before he died. That would be justice!!!

I can just picture the scene Victor, least they got some cash out of it. my mum's best friend's hubby went to jail for bigamy - he was married they had a child his wife was catholic and wouldnt divorce him but he wanted to be with mums friend who he met after the split. the saddest thing is their child was put in a home and eventually sent to Australia - mums friend and hubby had tried to adopt him but his wife was so viscious and wouldnt agree, sad on so many levels.:-( hugs jan xx
