["At Rest" was first published in Prairie Poets, Prairie Press Books, 1969. It was reprinted in my first poetry chapbook, "The Lady in the Pink Hat," Candor Press, 1969.]

Whose lips descend to mock the pursed recluse Lives trembling mute hand They who laugh refuse the strong arm of yesteryear. His the pastoral symphony the "peace that passeth" Through the acid heart Unseared, and rest the troubled soul free of fear.

Thanks so much, Sara. It was written so long ago, I don't even remember what prompted it! I appreciate your encouragement.
