A Soul

I don’t know if I’ve ever felt entirely safe. With most, I am a dark lighthouse— afraid of showing my light, even if it shipwrecks me. I keep on hoping to meet on the horizon, a soul with whom I don’t need to be whole— a soul that won’t crash or flee when I’m close to breaking— a soul that accepts my state— whether I brighten up the world, or simply flicker out.

To be perfect with no extra effort, to be loved with no obnoxious motives, and left alone with no excuses...is it possible, is it permissible Poetess...I think the first condition is being able to accept being alone, not forcing puzzle pieces to fit where they do not belong, and being okay with that. It's hard being alone...that's why I love you...I don't feel alone because I can touch your heart...Justin

The kind of love you give and have given, Justin, keeps me going on the heaviest shipwrecked nights, so I thank you, with all of the love in my heart… I’m lucky to know you… to love you… in between the rests and silences, between the thunders and writhings.. I remember your light and envision your smile. . always, Laura

Laura… this is so soft, so piercingly true. That line--“a dark lighthouse”--is unforgettable. It’s a symbol of strength and survival, but also sorrow. You’ve captured the ache of being strong for others while secretly yearning for someone who sees the flicker and stays. The quiet hope in these lines? It’s luminous. Thank you for this beautiful piece--it lingers. --Alesia

Thanks for reading—and understanding this vulnerable piece. When I get into my emotions, I tend to write ocean, maritime imagery…. And I also keep dreaming of tidal waves… but alas I digress…. Thank you for your thoughts… I’m immensely grateful. The dark lighthouses, apparently can be luminous too….thanks to readers like you…. <3 Laura

Ahhh to find someone who accepts us as we are, flaws and all. I have that, but it wasn't always that way. Wishing you peace and happiness Laura
