One Last Hug
A flower amid many in a garden full of roses You reign gallantly wearing exotic fiery red, Knowing the sunny days will dry your petals If no one soon picks you for a festive bouquet, Your devoted lover sings praises of your stance Adoring your splendor in verses quite grand Promising his words will make you immortal, But he hasn't visited since the last encounter, You fought nasty winds and the sensual moths Protecting the virtues of your fragrant charm Guarding ardent scent reserved just for him To whiff a kiss when he caresses your leaves, You defied moon's advancing wicked glance Never falling for the urge of a spurious dance For you saw the lust of their flirting vile eyes Choosing to await for your true-love to arrive, Having saved parting breath for one last hug Sad look of disbelief has you gravely undone Wishing you could fold and instantly curl up As you see him chasing a budding yellow-rose.
