A Giant Poem For a Giant Storm
A Giant Poem for a Giant Storm Old Man Frost is now boss. All the warm is now lost. Close your coat up so tight. Get that nose out of sight. Gray clouds grow large and loom. Skies are dark with chilled gloom. There’s a storm in the air. Folks on land must take care. Flake by flake the snow comes each its way a new one. As the days goes it mounts. for inch by inch it counts. Then one looks out and sees snow on the cars and trees. Next you can’t find the grass. How long will this storm last? Now that the street is gone snow plows will move out strong so that folks can get home not blind in snow to roam. Snow’s up to the front door. We don’t need to have more. But it just will not stop. When will it reach the top. It’s time to make a snack. Lie back and take a nap. Then skies light in pink flash and next the roar and crash. You’d think that it was hot when flash and roar you’ve got. But that is just not so for there is snow, snow, snow. It’s time to say, ”White Out,” is here and there’s no doubt. It is deep, two feet deep with hills of snow so steep. Soon the cold wind will blow on the high drifts of snow and the world will be white from the day through the night. Snow falls from dark to dawn. Sun peaks through on the lawn. All is in white and gold. Joy for the eye to hold. Now the kids will be glad that school’s not to be had. Glad it’s fun time to play in snow hills soft they lay. It is up to your thighs, a brand new all-time high. Short kids just can’t walk through ‘till paths are dug out new. The bad is not the snow that Old Man Frost can throw. It seems the thing called ice is not a thing so nice. On ice you slip and slide and fall down on your side. You can’t go out by car. It is much worse by far. Then of course there’s the sleet chunks of white like a sheet. With loud clinks as it falls like big hard stone ice balls. Sleet hits glass with a crack like the sound of a bat. Let’s get back to the snow Just how high did it go. Snow was up to three feet. You had to dig down deep. The ground was out of sight. A sleigh would be so right. This was a big cold storm. It went strong on and on. We are glad the snow ceased. There is now a new peace. Some folks write down the date times Old Man Frost was great. This is one of his days when he had all his ways. 480 words / 480 syllables Inspired by Silent One’s 120 Words Contest I thought he asked for 20 verses
