A Winter Morning
It is snowing outside my window, the sky and ground are one white fog, trees stand bare and brown forlorn, not even a bird sits in song today, weary I go to the kitchen, and fill the kettle with water. The water bubbles over as I stand, pondering something, vague and dull, I pour out the excess, oh the waste, and place it on the stove, soon it is boiling wildly and I make my first cafe. Later, I dress and put on my winter coat, guaranteed for minus fifty degrees, boots, scarf and mittens follow, and I go for my daily walk, in the park the pond is frozen the ducks and swans have gone. I am wondering about if I could skate, on the smooth surface or not, oh, I better forget that crazy idea, the benches are snow covered, no welcoming here in the park so I walk the path quickly. Soon, I come to the edge of a lake the water is full of broken ice, no boats or water skiing I will see, the current is fast and furious, I wonder about the fish below a wind makes me shiver. I retrace my steps turning from the lake, into the park and past the pond, oh look over there a gathering of sparrows, amazed how these little creatures, survive in the bitter cold, at home I put the kettle on. _________________________ February 10, 2018 Poetry/Verse/A Winter Morning Copyright Protected, ID 992-371-0 All Rights Reserved.
