Cygnus Inter Nubibus
“Cygnets usually begin leaving the habitat when they begin to turn their eventual adult coloring. Once the feathers and wings mature (approximately 8-10 months of age) the parents will no longer recognize the cygnets as their young, but rather as rivals. If the parents have taught them everything there is to know about being a swan , then the cygnets are either chased from the habitat, and/or flown around or away from the habitat during the migratory season by the parents”…. This is not how it happens in my story. IN Avalon upon a crystal lake sweet Cygnet dips webbed feet she consorts with toads and dragonflies that croak and flutter by it’s a magic day in her magic world, for today she learns to fly Regal Pen, teaches her to swim slow first takes her baby on her back, as has always been, the Swan Princess and her Queen, gliding smoothly 'cross cut-glass, way out to deep middle liquid green, clear of water lillies reeds and bull rushes, Black Cobs, strutting Drakes and Ducks full of bragging riddles and their angry screams. “You can ride upon my back a while”, The Queen chirps to her child, “we’ll make the magic last as long as must while our Sun wakes in our sky” The light was fading fast. The Sun drowned below the lake The Queen considered to herself, “Tis too soon, far too soon,is this my worst mistake? Or is it just part of life's plan, an ironic twist of fate?” The Moon smiled knowingly,it was too late The Queen lowered her graceful neck kissed their reflections sweet and soft, she keenly noticed their close connection in the mirror, smiles aloft, the lovely April of her Prime, the lake rippled as her tears dropped like diamonds one by one Her heart was very heavy, breaking silently, she smiled and dried her eyes. "Be brave, be bold,"she told herself, "Princesses need to be strong, learn to survive, fly and sing their own songs". She Kissed her child and smiled, “Hold on tight my love,I will take you as far as I can upon my back, far away up into the sky” And on with speed she danced on water spreading majestic wingspan wide she moved with the grace of all her life Cygnet held on far too tight, she knew it was time to say goodbye time had come to let go of mother, she dare not cry Cygnus inter nubibus Cygnet spreads her wings to Freedom "Fly", cries her mother, smiling, "Fly".
