The Poet and His Muse
Once upon a time, a frustrated poet that had not written for a while, turned towards the heavens and at the top of his voice cried: " Why oh you divine Muse have forsaken me and now, able I am not, to write even a single line?" Calmly the Muse looked at him with compassion and thus replied: "Dear child of mine, I would like you to recall the days when, free my inspiration, used to flow into your heart like a river of feelings and emotions that you so artfully were putting on paper creating thus poetry of great beauty that was by all admired. "Lately though" she continued "You do not come to me for inspiration anymore, as you did in those days, instead you come demanding from me to offer you something that I have never denied: my affection! But you do it without any humility." then she added: "Instead, you come with arrogance trying to put words in my mouth, ordering me to arrange them in the way that pleases you and not in the way poetry itself would like. Therefore, my advice to you, that suppose to be the voice of my inspiration, must understand that I made you mute out of love and respect for poetry, not for any other reason, till you humble yourself enough before this marvelous gift that God has offered you and me which is the language that in heavens it is spoken, the language that to you mortals, as POETRY it is known!" © Demetrios Trifiatis 18 January 2018
