The Tree
The Tree A tree wanted to learn, to know and understand. He went to see God for help with his plan. The Lord said, you’re a tree, I made you for shade. A home for the owl, a breeze in the glade. Go back and be content. I made you what you are. I could have made you a mountain, or one of my many stars. You have your purpose, as do all my living things. Like the sun in the sky and the warmth that it brings. The tree protested, I want more than just being a tree. I want to know all there is, I want to be like thee. The Lord replied: Do you really want to know the knowledge I command, that started at eternity and continues to expand? The tree said, I can handle that, that and so much more. Give to me your knowledge, open up the door. The Lord thought for a moment. Ok, I’ll grant you your request. I’ll give you all my knowledge, my wisdom and all the rest. So God gave him what he asked for and planted him near a stream. So that the tree had all knowledge and could understand all dreams. The tree felt good about himself and the knowledge he obtained. His fruit was pleasant to look at, more than his branches could contain. Little did the tree know... ...the serpent was the most wise and cunning amongst all the animals that the Lord had made.
