Icy New York Night
The New Year sill be here soon and the air is frigid in Gotham The winds are blowing and people outside are all bundled up Inside I pick up a pen Write some reflections on this New York night Spoke with old friends on the phone And with a the women who is my muse Now at night words come to me and I begin this poem I don't know how many of you out there in the darkness Also feel moved to write Looking out of my window I see apartment lights and hear the rush of traffic on the FDR drive Thousands upon thousands of city dwellers are trying to stay warm and happy in the frigid atmosphere City lights cut through the shadows In the apartment building I see through my window People are living out their destinies As I am - as all of you readers out there are Happy New Year!
