Two pairs of Equus eyes that motion dare, foxtrot to the midnight endless dance Their heated passion is an Appaloosa affair, day number three of a spotty romance Leg weary though they both mightily be, prize money is a conveniently shared dream Chance lovers who met on a social steppe — to rise above the fray, stamina must redeem In a Honky-tonk Depression-era barn saloon, they hug in a boxer embrace Paired partners through fate, fighting off fatigue this round much too soon Gaslight hope in his tired eyes dips, dimly glowing and slowly fading So she strike a wet match to his lips, to keep their Equus legs moving As the last horses fall one by one, they hear the hoots ... the shouts, and the shots ring out Someone tells them that they won; two dragging spirits, their lives be now galloping about
