My Christmas Memories
Vacation came, and to the woods we'd all go, my siblings and I, to slide down hills of snow. Our toes got nearly frozen. Soon the sunlight died. It felt nice to get warm once we were inside. Also at this special time, our church would host a program. The goody sacks I liked the most! A Santa would hand them out to one and all. Kids ran gleefully to see him in the hall. The fellowship in our small church was so strong. With joy we would lift our voices in glad song. Close to the "big day," my mother's family would gather for dinner; cousins I could see! Wonderful reunion! We each got a gift. How I miss those times that gave my soul a lift! At last came the morning we'd been waiting for. We raced down the stairs; then into gifts we tore. Later, Christmas dinner, cookies, cakes and pies. Staying up and playing till we closed our eyes! No holiday for me could ever be as dear. Now memory alone is my souvenir. Nov. 28, 2017
