Road Kill
I am what I am, and I can’t change the part of me That has such a craving for the carcass on the road. I circle the desert from high above to see what I see. The guilt I feel in waiting for death is not a heavy load. I get lots of pleasure in seeing a creature in pain From the crushing blow of an oncoming car or truck. I’ll hunt for my food, whether it’s in the sun or the rain. There’s a lot of skill involved and hardly any luck. I’m great at what I do, and some may think I’m vain, But it’s just jealousy that drives them to think that way. I really have no enemies, because that would be insane. It’s an honor to be my meal, and the price that some must pay. I swoop down from the sky ignoring all of my fears, And eat my lunch in the road until I get my fill. As I think back on my life and what I’ve done through the years, I look up and I become what I eat…ROAD KILL!
