Summer of Barren
In the winter of this fading love, I felt the snowflakes falling sting It was the coldest separation ... a heavy coat of pain my heart is wearing Those old roots no longer are growing deep, no romantic flowering spring activity I don’t see any budding green leaves of caring, looks like it’s gonna be a summer of barren Forecast is grim for love’s fall — the changing color of grief is now covered by a blanket of white amnesia Dreary regret of a summer bare, this year there were no intimate fruits to share The loving cupboard is clean empty now, yet I must survive this blizzard somehow In the frosted windows I see ghost shadows of you And I woefully wonder: what happened to the shady oak tree of summer, under which our love grew The branches are all broken and barren And your frozen footprints in the ground are glistening virgin new, as they are leading away from the field where I first vowed to love only you
