Can I Lie Here a Little Longer
"I'm tired" he said "I need my sleep. Let me nap a while" He lay there 'neath the tree roots and gave a whimsical smile The snores began immediately the noise was ever stronger She had to wake him but he groaned "can I lie here a bit longer" She made him stand and walk about in hopes of waking him She let him walk away and followed with a gaze so grim He took some steps then laid back down the snores then rent asunder She woke him up because his snores were sounding loud as thunder "Can I lay here a bit longer" he pleaded her in vain But she was adamant and made him stand up once again The moon was high it neared midnight his eyes were red and raw He walked two steps then laid again and slept a little more She'd had enough she walked away the noise just drove her crazy She walked away to lose the sound her partner was pure lazy On he slept throughout the night snoring with great passion She'd had enough the snoring truly lost all of her compassion As the morning light appeared she was shattered and weepy His constant snores had left her tired and so sleepy She woke him once more hoping he would rise a little stronger But sadly his only response was "can I lie here a little longer" So off she went in grumpy mood to find herself some slumber But no sooner had she hit the sack the world was torn asunder The snores were fierce and loud again she could take no more She marched to him, gave a great shake and dropped him on the floor He woke at once his head so sore his jaw gape in shock She ranted and she raved at him and pointed at the clock For they were meant to work through night not lie and sound like thunder But he replied and asked again "can I lie here a bit longer" Now she saw red and through her rage she kicked him once again He cried out loud and hopped about in anguish and in pain The she retired to her bed to find some well earned sleep Whilst he sat down and licked his wounds and pondered very deep He tried to join her asking her "can I lie here a bit longer" She glared at him, he took the hint and realised she was stronger So off he limped and did his work he should have done through night Then realised he needed sleep or couldn't work tonight So down he laid 'neath the tree roots and fell asleep again But it was very short lived because it began to rain It woke him up and soaking wet he trudged on with his task Whimpering to himself "I'm tired is sleep really to much to ask"?
