Battling Sadness
Battling Sadness Morning light seeps through my bedroom curtains And the birds are sounding from outside I've been laid here now for several hours Tears burn trails down my cheeks either side Nothing good or nice can stem my tear flow Mind is playing thoughts through in rewind I can't see a future through my sadness Nothing good will leak into my mind Laying here awaiting my alarm call Summoning my rise to face the day Really not sure that my body's willing Maybe if I drop my planned out day Reluctance thwarts my first attempt to stand up Eventually I stand there looking round Trudge my way towards the bedroom door now Ignoring all the clothes upon the ground Heading for the bathroom for my shower Water steaming hot from taps of brass Standing underneath the falling water Watching all the droplets on the glass Spending far to long, the waters cool now Stepping out and drying off my self Looking round for something that might help me Noticing the tablets on the shelf Slowly making my way to the kitchen, Switching on the kettle for a drink Looking for a clean mug for my coffee Rinsing out last nights mug in the sink Pouring boiling water on my coffee Tears begin again to tumble fast Sitting with the pills upon the table Wondering if today is my last Picking up the phone because it's ringing Hearing voices asking why I'm late Looking at the clock and realising It's now half past nine not half past eight Making my excuses not to go in Really couldn't face a day at work Mind begins to reminisce again now Churning up the thoughts from where they lurk Head is really hurting now when I move Thumping with the pulse of distant drums All I want to do is stop the hurting Nibbling on my biscuit dropping crumbs So I decide to head back upstairs now To the semi comfort of my bed Spend the rest of today quietly resting Hoping to appease the banging head Laying there and watching light beams dancing Through the watery haze of my sore eyes Wishing, hoping, wanting this to stop now Smothering my pillow with my cries Jane Shields 10th August 2016
