His beady eyes stared, Cold, and black as sin. He let out a hellish squawk When they started singing hymns. The louder that the gathered sang, The louder did he get. He echoed all around the church, In a devilish duet. As it reached a crescendo, The vicar shouted "halt" The gathered raised their eyes, And looked up to the vault. What was glaring down at them, Sent shivers down their spines. The raven, still squawking Was mocking the divine. In the pews, a cry went up, "It's the devils bird" All of them were terrified, Frightened cries were heard. He flew across the church, The congregation blanched. He landed on the holy cross, And used it as a branch. Enraged, the vicar cried aloud "Begone you bird from hell" So it flew up to the tower, And alighted on the bell. Then pandemonium struck, There rose a mighty scream. For the raven, he looked down and screeched "HAPPY HALLOWEEN !" Entry for - Could You Please poetry contest Sponsored by Broken Wings 10/10/2017
