Signs of My Times Fears of My Peers
Signs of My Times Fears of My Peers. There were little signs When I was a kid Prominently posted Certainly not hid. They were a little rhyme To gain parents attention To warn them of costs It family lacked “retention” You could find them In every little gift shop The purpose of course Was to get kids to stop They weren’t written by a sage Or some really deep thinker It was only a reminder Your kid may be a stinker. Lovely to look at Delightful to hold But if you break it We mark it sold. That was the “posted” word Some 50+ years ago I think things are different The signs seem to show. Now they’re about cameras Whose intimidating eye Is watching you closely Here is the “Why” Because long years ago The threat was ‘busy’ kids Now it’s big sticky fingers With big pockets well hid It’s not careless small children Or distracted supervision It’s shop lifting thievery That’s caused this revision. Jewelers now show One ring at a time Another might be replaced With a thin silver dime. Expensive smaller items Now come with small strips To catch “careless” folks Who may strap to their hips New CD’s or DVD’s Video games right and left Almost any item in stock Can be subject to theft. But I’ve no little shop Why this growing concern There’s a “by - line” to this It’s something I learn It’s in medical journals And on my doctors lip Watch where you walk You don’t want to slip You may find yourself riding A 4 wheeled E.R. gurney Something like that could be The end of your journey So as I’m sitting there In my lazy boy chair I look over at my loved one I don’t mean to now stare But I remember those signs From long years now past I am reminded our body Wasn’t built to long last She’s so lovely to look at Delightful to hold But if either one falls We may shatter I’m told. I guess I was reminded By our local weather man Who loves winter snow Will bring it soon as he can But winter is wrought With slick ice under foot I fear for our health With one slip it’s ”kaput”. So in the days that follow You’re in a parking lot Just covered with black ice A “gray hairs” in a tough spot Count now to ten You’re spry and well fit Remember your elders You can help them a bit. Allow them a moment To get safely in their car It may mean the world To keep them out of “ER”. Written by oldbuck, Oct. 4, 2017 in a pensive moment as he thought about changing times, changing weather, his “golden years” and the variety of concerns those topics bring.
