Lawnmower Therapy
I drove into town today To get a burger and a shake. I said no mustard when I paid, But I got mustard anyway. I don’t really give a hoot, Old cut-off jeans and cowboy boots. It’s all on my side of the fence. Don’t give a dang ‘bout fashion sense. Let’s get on out and mow. Need time to search my soul. Lawnmower therapy Lawnmower therapy Let’s put this puppy into gear, A cigarette and ice cold beer. I woke up with bad news today, My boy, Tom Petty passed away. A mass shooting in Las Vegas, I don’t know what’s become of us. It’s five years Momma’s in the grave Almost exactly to the day. Had to turn off the news. It’s giving me the blues. Lawnmower therapy Lawnmower therapy I’ll cut this whole ten-acre field. I need a little time to heal. The Puerto Rico hurricane, Maria wiped it all away. Oh, country folk, they understand. Don’t need no one to lend a hand. I’ll shoot the grass right in your face If you don’t get clear of my space. I wanna mow the lawn, Sing a really sad, sad song. Lawnmower therapy Lawnmower therapy I put away the phone. Don’t bother me, nobody’s home. Lawnmower therapy I’ll ride into the sun, Sing an old sad, sad song. Lawnmower therapy There is still a little gas. I think I’ll make another pass And drink another brew, Sing an old sad, sad tune. I don’t care what you say. I need a little time to pray.
