Life's Lessons Learned
This is his home, wherever he lays his old head, I wonder how long it’s been since this old guy has known the comforts of a bed. Sleeping in back alleys, under bridges, wherever he may be, Maybe I’m too soft hearted but things like this really take a toll on me. His old clothes are ragged and unclean, but his old heart is as pure as the driven snow, He just chose not to be a burden to folks is all I know. Doing odd jobs, sweeping sidewalks, just about any job he can find, He’ll work for food or money or help you for free, he’s just that kind. He does not drink, smoke or cuss no bad habits has he learned, Just an old man out of place in this wicked society he spurned. An old pocket bible he carries and he knows every word in every book, Many times I’ve heard him quote scripture and his appearance takes on a different look. He said I’d rather live my life for the Lord than let money be in control, He says it’s the life I choose and I wouldn’t play any other role. He said when I lay my head down at night I know I’ve done no one wrong, He said I know my days are numbered and the numbers are not long. He said when that role is called up yonder do you think Jesus is going to look at how we are dressed? He said it’s just my opinion but knowing God’s Word is the way we are blessed. He has made me rethink a lot of my priorities and the way I live, And it has more to do with gifts from the heart than the money I give. Like do unto others like you would have them do unto you, These are the things that matter, and the things that will get you through. Have a wonderful and Happy New Year everyone!
