Lazarus, Come Forth, a Prayer For America
Lord, I ask not if these bones can live; but rather, if this nation can long survive. What can I bring to the table of an America on life support? Does the answer lie beyond the question of who best to export, or how can we reverse our trade deficits and increase our exports? O God I ask, what can I add to the equation of resolution to avoid a revolution? How can I weigh in on the balancing scales of reckoning, and not be found wanting? And I ask of you, where is the Lord God of Elijah? And is there no balm in Gilead? To the average and the common American I ask, Is it nothing to all you who pass by? Is this a season to fold our arms and cry? Is the curtain closing for us to say goodbye? Is it not rather a time for us to decry the lie of the sinister serpent who now portrays the life of a scavenger waiting in the wings for the kill? Lord God of our forefathers I ask, Where is the selfless wisdom of Washington and the unifying language of Lincoln? I pray we not be as Sampson who lost his moral compass, and but for the mercy of God, his life and name would have become a footnote in the pages of world history. May we come to understand and realize that our neithbor, our co-patriot, our fellow American, is not our enemy. May we open our eyes to behold the true beauty of our American family. O Lord, let your church arise with true prophets and awakened seers to reveal the voice of God. As Lazarus came from the grave, let us come forth from our seats of indifference and our pews of comfort. In the name of Christ. Amen. 08192017cjPS
