The Observer
The trees are turning cherry red The birds and squirrels all sleep For the winter is coming. The winter is close. Homer is bracing for the snowfall. Crystal flakes feathering to where the world waits, Wondering and wandering around the town square. A chilled breeze nibbles at the faces of the kids Who are skating on the Fire-hosed ice On the green of the chapel. The smile and laugh And their parents do the same, admiring such A small town escape. The faces of the people Turn the color of the trees, as the lights Of the night glow in pillars to the sky, Lighting the freezing crystals in the air. The parents gather their children to go Home to a fire and a warm cup of cocoa While the shade of the winter night smirks To itself, content with the wonders Of the Evening.
