To All of the Women of This World Who Have Been the Undesired Recipient of My Affection
(To The Reader: Get Your Mind Out Of The Gutter) To all of the women of this world who have been the undesired recipient of my affection I have loved you none the less, to your inevitable chagrin. To each of you I have shown caring and understanding, I have listened with great interest to your tales of other men and how they have hurt you, or not. I have wiped your tears away (mostly metaphorically of course) and even in some cases held you in my arms as your tear drops stained my shirt. (usually my good one, as I try to dress up nicely when I'm with you). I've listened to your laughter and the songs you sing, I've watched you smile and dance (sometimes quite awkwardly) and I have enjoyed, ...no reveled... in each and every moment I have spent with you. I have sincerely brought you candy and flowers because I know you enjoy them (but never once, in all of these years, have I ever sincerely received either from any of you -sincerely- ---Sincerely!---). When your cat died I... umm, well... sorry, I guess I wasn't there for that, sorry (God! you were 700 miles away, how was I supposed to be there for that! Give me a break, I'm not perfect). At your worst I've told you how beautiful you are and I haven't complained when you shared a long glance with a passing guy (or girl), nor when you spent overly long moments giggling with your cute "friend" in the corner. You've told me over and over again how much you "need me" and I have been there each time, (except for the cat, sorry). but have you ever, even once, told me how much you "want" me (AND I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT SEX!)? No, not once. instead, on more than one occasion it's been, "Hi, how are you? Did I tell you I'm engaged?" (It must have been fun seeing the look on my face). "Oh, but we'll always be friends," as you turn away never to be seen again. 3,439,427,037 women in the world (2011), you would think there would be at least one. 07/14/2017
