Modern Day Mama
My toilet was a hole outside inside of 4x4 rotten wooden box with a door I was young and old then life filled with drama I was a modern-day mama my kitchen has running water with a hand pump water taste like iron I had to crank the handle up and down 2 inch roaches racing down the walls spiders drinking hot taw taws I was a modern-day mama my kitchen has running water dishes made of tin wishing I had more of them cast iron skillets pots copper pans ate raw dandelion greens had a wringer washing machine I was young and old then life filled with drama I was a modern-day mama my husband worked while I cooked and cleaned I stayed at home and nurtured the children and every day we would pray neither nuclear bombs nor Worldly diseases would hinder our day I was young and old then life filled with drama I was a modern-day mama Sunday school we will my husband and I would continue to praise raise head and hands to the sky and acknowledge God for all he does we would share this with our children and if any child got hurt I'll kiss them always while mending their pants and skirts I was the modern-day mama Written by James Edward Lee Sr (c)2014 for/from University of Nebraska @ Omaha "Celebrate A collection of Writings about Women"
