The Belt
"THE BELT" and there the sun hit my face and the shadows covered my brother's back. our tears were different. "wait until he gets home!" my mother shouted. she made ribs for our lunch that day and they were covered in barbecue sauce. my brother and I sat at the table and ate. my mother had those chairs with cushions. the ribs dropped and fell onto our seats. "what the hell did you two just do? look at my chairs!" she had barely met this man and already she was waiting for him to get home. our home. we were sent to our room and there we'd wait. we heard the door open, we heard her explain what happened, in reality though, it was what she thought but didn't actually know. when it happened, she was in the kitchen. that was when he came in, he was holding his belt. we looked at each other with the same confusion wondering why this man who wasn't our father was about to hit us. he tore us apart. as we cried, my brother went back to his bed and I stood standing. my mother came in and I began to ask her why? "shut up! don't say a damn word!" they closed the door. as I laid in my bed I turned over to the desk that sat in between our beds and saw a blank piece of paper and a pencil. I've been writing ever since. By: Chicano Eddie 3102017
