Circles Within Circles
My heart lamented when I realized I was a finite being my days on this imperfect world were numbered and my affliction left no hope my life would be extended; in despair and not to be consoled, my body shook. The strong heart my parents gave me yielded nothing in my life of any consequence. My sorrow was unbearable, "I am dying!" Suddenly, aware I had misspent the greater part of my life and accomplished nothing, I continued to shake. Deep in depression, my companion became a darkened corner of a very dark room where I watched religious shows for no reason, looking for what? What I was looking for I didn’t know, maybe what William C. Fields, the comedian, replied when caught reading a bible. His friend asked him, “What are you doing reading a bible, Bill, you’re an atheist?” Bill replied, “I’m looking for loopholes.” Contemplating my sadness, I heard the doorbell ring. It was my two grandsons with my son. They darted towards me. Shouting: "Hi Gran'paw." and giving me the biggest hug that whatever depression I had felt quickly dissipated lifting my spirits like a weather balloon. Looking into my son's and grandsons’ faces resembling mine and full of life I knew life was beautiful, I was not dying today! A sensation of inner joy overwhelmed me. I knew then I would live on in their aspirations, dreams, their children’s children and in their motivations. Scientists say, nothing in the Universe dies, given enough time, all things become something else. The spirit at the end looks to regenerate By seeking and finding other spirits to love, to encircle each other, to be within each other, around and through each other Spirits are different, but in the end the same, holding on to continue the continuum of their lives like spirits of circles within circles.
