All Nature Groans and Travails
ALL NATURE GROANS AND TRAVAILS The winds are blowing through the trees, In autumn leaves fall rapidly. Tornadoes, typhoons, hurricanes All wreak their havoc, cause their pain. Earthquakes and fires and floods all come And leave so many without a home. All nature’s violence is its groans; For a new world it sadly moans. The sin of man has cursed the earth, And all his violence has given birth To war between the good and bad And why there are so many sad. God gave control of all to man, But Satan had another plan, And so he tempted man’s free choice With cunning skill and subtle voice. Just one tree that God did command, “Don’t eat of it,” He said to man. “You’ll surely die if you partake.” ‘Twas not an unreasonable demand to make. But that old serpent had his plan: “You will not really die, oh man. God knows when you eat of this tree, Like gods you then will surely be.” And so because man made the choice Of listening to the serpent’s voice, He faced the curse and punishment That from his Maker God then sent. The curse on woman now’s in birth, In sorrow she brings child to earth. The curse on man is in the ground, Thorns and thistles there are found. The curse on Satan is the Seed That God has given man to be freed From all the curse of his great sin: God’s only Son man’s soul would win. Now sin has all this consequence: The groans, travails, and violence. And one day Jesus had to bear The curse of sin on Calvary there. And though He won the victory, Still a great battle yet we see. For nature’s ruled by Satan’s power, Groans and travails this very hour. And prince and power of the air, He lets us know his presence there. But soon this travail all will end As God again His Son will send To earth to make it all anew; Again its beauty will be viewed.
